A couple of years ago, my previous blog collapsed in a heap when I tried to move it from one host to another. WordPress could not help and the backup software I’d been using turned out to be rubbish and the company that made it, unsurprisingly, had gone bust. It was a bit of a blow. I’d put hundreds of hours into that blog and written half-a-million words. Almost all of it was lost forever.
So it is with great trepidation that I begin a new one – or trust any cloud-based service ever again.
This new venture will be much like the old one – because I’m much like I was two years ago – but it will have a tiny bit more structure. This time, I want to post around ten “themes”. These are:
- The Rule (more about this below).
- My Writing.
- My ideas.
- My life.
- Politics and society (a lot of ranting, probably).
- Science and philosophy.
- Books.
- Music.
- TV and films.
- Humour (I might even do a funny meme of the month, or somesuch).
It’s all pretty standard stuff and you would only want to read any of it if you thought my style or my views made this blog more interesting than the 12 million others in your feed. What will be rather different, though, is what I write about The Rule.
The Rule is an idea I’ve had for an ethical system. It’s not radical or sophisticated but it is easy and practical. Applying The Rule – even in a half-arsed way – should make our whole world a better place. So, what is it? Well, to find out, you will have to read the blog. All the themes listed above will be tagged with “category” labels, so you can see everything I add about The Rule by selecting that category filter.
I hope you will all join me and stay with me and – very importantly – comment on posts and share them. If i wanted to talk to myself, I could do that without going to all this trouble. That’s not the point of a blog at all.
